Ten Things Every Woman Aged 18 -80 Should Have (Including the Trivial, the Controversial, and the Unarguable)…

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope that this year proves to be prosperous and glorious for you. As we settle into this new year, I couldn’t help but think about the things that I have, the things that I’m thankful for, and the experiences that I intend to have in my lifetime. And I thought, why not share some of the things that I have, the things that I’m grateful for, and the things that I will have (in a roundabout way) with you? You guys are interested, right? So, sit down, grab a glass of wine or a cup of apple cider (both are equally yummy), get some popcorn (and a ketchup shaker from Kernels if you dare), and read on…

1. Hope

Seriously, hope is life sustaining. Life can be rough as hell sometimes (believe me, I’ve been there and bought the t-shirt on tough times and tough circumstances), but what gets you through life is having hope (and even faith) that things will eventually get better. They just have to, right? Things can’t be bad forever, and things are always changing (that’s the ebb and flow of life). There is always the possibility of a series of circumstances coming along to change your life for the better. And just think, especially when things go really sour in your life, the only way to go is up. So, dear readers please have hope; keep it alive, let it have wings, and let it keep you going, because it will.

Dave Lackie Shiseido VIP Dinner & Talk

vip 024

Last night Dave Lackie (Beauty Editor and Cityline Contributor) hosted a VIP experience for a group of us. We drank, ate, and listened as Dave and Shisiedo Canada’s Marketing/Business head told us all about the technology of the free swag we all made like bandits with. Shisiedo’s sunscreen actually becomes more protective when in contact with water (re: white water rafting, boating, swimming in the lake while camping….) Its amazing! Here are the details:

Brown Skincare: The Overview

loreal british red

Aunts and friends often ask me why my skin looks so good. The presumption all around is that, because I am blessed with brown skin, my skin is naturally perfect and I do nothing to keep it looking as good as it does. That’s not entirely the case.

I was blessed with good skin (thanks mom!) but I do the right thing to make sure it stays healthy. I have slacked in the past with skincare – particularly in regards to moisturizing and cleansing – and felt the effects of it. Never again!

The thing for brown skinned beauties to keep in mind when walking into the drugstore or a high-end beauty counter is this: the beauty industry promotes skincare ingredients that are of concern to people with lighter skin.  Ads always focus on skincare products which “boost collagen,”  “infuse skin with melanin” and also products that are full of “anti-aging properties,” “fine line corrector’s,” and, of course, “redness corrector’s.”

Well guess what? None of those things are of great concern for black women (or any other women with deeper skin).  Here’s why:

Really Good Stuff: Cold Weather Skincare Add-ons

skin 001

Recently parts my face, no doubt in reaction to the temperature dropping and the wind whistling feverishly, promptly dried out like clockwork. My cheeks, the bottom sides of chin, and my eyebrows, Ugh.

To fight back I went out to the drugstore in search of some facial water faucets.

I’ve been trying out a few new serums too (more on that later – I haven’t used them long enough) but for now I have thoughts to share with you on the Simple skincare range.  Continue reading
