As the seasons change your hair care routine should change too. Now that Spring is waiting in the wings it’s time to set a game plan for rainy, and more humid weather…

1.Live Clean  Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo and Apple Cider Finishing Rinse, $7,49 each Well.ca

Apple Cider is a natural astringent. As it gets warmer, and we start to pile on more anti-frizz products into our hair, these babies will will clean out all the excess junk out of our hair trunks.

2. Curls Like Us Cloths, $24 CurlMart.com

Black women of colour, rocking their natural hair texture, might have heard of the old cotton t-shirt trick. It is one of the best ways to dry newly washed hair without sucking the life out of it. If you don’t have a t-shirt to spare use this. Microfiber cloths retain water, and they  protect hair from damage. Go buy yourself some!

3. Carols Daughter Tutu Moisturizing Hair Mask, $36 for two. Carol’s Daughter.com

Shampoo and Conditioner is not enough. A hair mask injects necessary moisture into your hair, and it’s something that all ladies should be using once or twice a week. Carols Daughter is a great brand for Afro hair.

4. Live Clean Argan Oil Restorative Conditioning Mask, $7.49 Well.ca

This is a mighty one. It completely restores and transforms your hair!

5. Carols Daughter Hair Balm, $14,00 Carols Daughter.com

Amazing with a very light hair gel, as a moisture sealant, and for unraveling a braid out.

6. Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment for Fizzy, Dry, or Unmanageable Hair, $5.99 Drugstore.com

Hot oil treatments are essential for strengthening Afro hair. Garnier offers a great and  affordable option with this one.  I like to heat up my bottle in warm water for 10 minutes, slather it on from root to tip, leave it for 20 minutes, and then rinse it out before using a deep, leave-in, conditioner. It’s glorious.

7. Gentle Elastic Hair Ties, $8,00 3GrrrlsHandmade, Etsy.com

Most hair ties, especially those with any trace of metal, are bad news for Afro hair. These are gentle, non irritating, and they let your hair stay on your head!
